Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the final moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
